| The F3 Word! TV chef takes off with the RAF
TV chef Gordon Ramsay has been to RAF Leuchars where he had the once in a lifetime opportunity to fly in the back of a Tornado F3.
Gordon's fast-jet flight was a thank you from the aircrew of 43 Squadron for showing them how to cook a healthy lunch during what can often be extremely busy squadron flying days. The visit was filmed for an edition of Gordon's Channel 4 show 'The F Word', to be screened on the evening of Tuesday 22 May 2007. The Channel 4 show, with audiences topping four million, brought together the famously fiery chef and the aircrew of 43 Squadron (The Fighting Cocks) at RAF Leuchars for a recorded feature item in the show. The aircrew invited the master chef to show them how to make the best – and healthiest – use of their precious eating times on a busy squadron flying day. They also took him on a training sortie in a Tornado F3 to show him life in the very fast lane with a menu of twists and turns lasting an hour.
As he climbed down from the Tornado, Gordon said:
"That was extraordinary. Just extraordinary. Awesome."
Gordon's pilot was Squadron Leader Chris Stevens, who commands one of the flights on the squadron. He said:
"Gordon did very well in the air and insisted on finishing the training sortie despite feeling the heat in the cockpit."
42 Squadron takes its name from the Gamecock aircraft they flew in the 1920s. They still keep two cockerels in a cage next to their buildings at Leuchars but they kept them well out of the way during the visit in case the master chef got any ideas!
The F Word is filmed in the glamorous F Word restaurant, based in central London. Each show turns the restaurant into a high-octane environment, where guests enjoy the culinary masterpieces created on-site by Gordon and his team. | |
