Britsh Soldier Dies In Iraq

It is with deep sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that a British soldier has died as a result of wounds sustained in Basra City on Monday 21 May 2007.

The soldier died as a result of wounds sustained in an incident in the Al Tuwaysa district of central Basra earlier today.

The soldier was injured during an attack on the resupply convoy that he was travelling in, en route to a Multi National Forces base. He was evacuated to Basra Palace for treatment, but sadly he later died of his wounds.

A fuel tanker was also set on fire and was blown over. As a result of this a civilian driver was sadly killed.

The soldier's immediate next of kin have been informed. The wider family are currently being informed, and no further information will be released until
that process is complete
